A notable variety known as “Pizzuta” is particularly rich in healthy fats, contributing to its nutritional value. Historically, these almonds were also used to make confetti for Italian weddings, thanks to their delicious flavor and distinctive long, thin oval shape.
To give you a bit of insight, our Sicilian Unsweetened Sicilian Almond Paste is truly exceptional. Sicilian almonds are regarded as the best in the world because they thrive in Sicily’s volcanic soil. Avola Almonds are grown in Avola, a small town located near Syracuse, in a region known for wine production and characterized by its arid climate. This area has a significant concentration of almond trees, and a unique feature of the almonds grown here is that they blossom in January. The local microclimate—protected by mountains and near the Mediterranean Sea—ensures mild temperatures. Additionally, the extremely dry soil makes almond production environmentally sustainable, as these trees require minimal water.
Our producer sun-dries the almonds naturally, avoiding industrial machinery in the drying process. Sicilian Almond Milk is a refreshing natural thirst quencher! In Sicily, almond milk is typically served at cafés during the hot, arid summer months and is also used to make Italian Ice.
Our Unsweetened Sicilian Almond Paste comes in a jar as a liquid-paste form. Many assume that grinding almonds produces a powder; however, almonds are seeds that contain oil. When we grind the almonds, they create an all-natural oily paste. In fact, the almond paste consists solely of almonds and almond oil, with the liquid naturally rising to the top of the jar. In short, this is a very artisanal and genuine product.
