IGP-Certified Pearled Italian Farro
Giannetti Artisans is proud to present our IGP-Certified pearled Italian Farro. Farro, also known as spelt, is an ancient grain that was a favorite dish among the Romans. Today, it is still widely produced and enjoyed by the people of Garfagnana, located in the beautiful Tuscan region just outside of Lucca.
Our producers continue to clean and process the spelt in traditional stone mills, preserving the methods used in the past. As a result, the natural processing and the unpolluted environment contribute to making our certified Farro a truly authentic product.
Italian Farro, or Spelt-Farro della Garfagnana IGP, is traditionally used in a variety of delicious and healthy first courses. Compared to spelt cultivated in other regions, Garfagnana Spelt stands out for its exquisite flavor. In winter, spelt soup is not only comforting and filling but also nutritious—especially when you add porcini mushrooms for a hearty touch! In the spring and summer months, try our Spelt (Farro della Garfagnana) in cold pasta dishes or salads. It pairs wonderfully with ingredients like tuna, mozzarella, pesto, diced tomatoes, olives, herbs, and fresh basil.
To protect this natural and authentic product, the Garfagnana community obtained IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) status for locally grown spelt. Farro from Garfagnana is the only spelt in Italy with official IGP certification. Giannetti Artisans is delighted to bring such quality food from these wonderful regions!
